Disordered Eating Support
EATING DISORDER COUNSELING FOR WOMEN & TEEN GIRLS
Recovery is Possible...
An initial consultation is required to help assess whether you or someone close to you has an eating disorder. As well as understand your perception of the problem and previous treatment experience. Consultations are confidential and necessary to determine what needs to be done next.
Individual therapy provides a supportive atmosphere in which clients can explore and change disruptive eating behaviors. Because anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders are not solely problems with food and weight, the goal will be both to change the behavior and also to understand how food is used to manage emotions and stress. Treatment goals include:
Understanding the function food serves in meeting emotional needs
Developing control of destructive eating patterns
Finding healthier ways of leading one’s life
Family therapy is an important part of treatment when teens and even young adults are seen. The goal is to determine how family members can best be of help in the recovery process? I will balance the needs for teens and young adults’ privacy with the need for parents to be thoughtfully involved.
COUNSELING FOR COUPLES & SIGNIFICANT OTHERS
Eating disorders do not just affect the person in trouble with food or that person’s family. Friends, spouses, fiancés, and significant others are all challenged by the person struggling with bulimia, anorexia or binge eating disorder. If you have questions about what to do to help, a consultation can be set up to determine a plan of action.
Please note: A medical evaluation from your primary care doctor may be requested in order to schedule your initial session. Questions about this can be answered during the consultation.
